The Rabbits of the Burrow| The LBC Buns

Our journey into professional rabbit care in Long Beach began with four special rescue bunnies who changed our lives forever. Meet the rabbits who inspired Bun Chia Burrow and taught us everything we know about rabbit bonding, behavior, and care.

Our Story

When we first rescued Marshmallow off of our friend's lawn late one evening in May 2019, we didn't realize that our life would change forever. That chance encounter in Long Beach set us on a path we never expected—one that would lead to professional rabbit care and helping other families bond with their bunnies.

We adopted Macaron from Friends of Unwanted Rabbits in Folsom, CA in December 2020, and Chocolatte (and Charlotte🌈) from Bunny World Foundation in Los Angeles, CA in July 2021. The trio are 100% free-roam, litter trained, trick-trained, and bonded to each other. We cannot imagine having only one rabbit after watching the way these three take care of each other. Their bond showed us something special—and other rabbit rescue volunteers encouraged us to share what we learned with the community.

The Buns

Marshmallow - 9.5 years old
Our fearless girl and alpha of the group (a true girl boss). She is mischievous, yet very particular with her routine and cleanliness. Marshmallow runs our Long Beach household with confidence and taught us everything about rabbit hierarchy and leadership.
Personality: Confident, adventurous, meticulously clean
Role: Alpha rabbit and pack leader

Chocolatte - 9.8 years old
Despite missing his back right leg, he is quite the athlete with his binkies and zoomies. Chocolatte proves every day that special needs rabbits can live full, active lives. His resilience inspired us to help other families with special needs bunny care.
Personality: Athletic, resilient, energetic
Special Needs: Tripod (missing back right leg)
Fun Fact: Married to Charlotte 🌈

Charlotte 🌈 - Forever in our hearts
Charlotte was Chocolatte's bunwife and the architect of the group (she would have turned 5 on her and Chocolatte's gotcha day). It was her photo on Instagram that opened our home to our first foster, and sent us down the rabbit hole of rescue. Her legacy lives on in everything we do.
Personality: Docile, nurturer
Special Needs: Stasis prone
Fun Fact: she was a New Zealand x Netherland Dwarf

Macaron - 5.5 years old
The baby of the group. He is just too cute to resist, and is always getting kissed and cleaned by his older siblings. Macaron is also an official Pet Partners Therapy Rabbit—his gentle nature makes him perfect for connecting with people and showing what well-socialized rabbits can be.
Personality: Sweet, affectionate, therapy-trained
Certification: Official Pet Partners Therapy Rabbit
Role: Ambassador for rabbit welfare and education

Adventures

The trio are avid travelers and have visited cities like San Francisco, San Diego, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Las Vegas, and even Houston. They loved their annual snow days and their weekly trips to the park here in Long Beach.

We no longer travel as much as we used to, but they are enjoying their retirement (at least Marshmallow + Choco are). Their travel experience taught us a lot about helping rabbits adapt to new environments and transitions.

What Our Rabbits Taught Us About Professional Pet Care

Living with three bonded, free-roam rabbits gave us hands-on expertise in successful rabbit bonding (we bonded all three ourselves), special needs care (Chocolatte's tripod care taught us adaptive techniques), therapy animal training (Macaron's certification process), understanding multi-rabbit household dynamics, and helping rabbits adapt to new environments stress-free.
