Our Commitment
Bun Chia Burrow exists because we believe every rabbit deserves expert, compassionate care - and every family deserves access to the resources that make excellent rabbit ownership possible.
Through Second Hop (our rescue sponsorship program), Blood Donor Bunny (emergency donor coordination), affordable healthcare access, free education, and active community involvement, we're working to build a Southern California where all rabbits are valued, understood, and cared for properly.
BCB's Role
As a facility, we provide boarding, grooming, bonding, and medical boarding services. Our facility becomes the vehicle for rescue work - our network houses foster rabbits, our staff coordinates emergency blood donors, and our platform connects people with rabbits needing sponsorship.
Second Hop's Role
Second Hop is the rescue mission. It's how we turn the resources and expertise of BCB outward into the community, saving rabbits from euthanasia and connecting them with supporters who care.
The Connection
When you board your rabbit with us, you support the business. When you sponsor a rabbit through Second Hop, you support rescue. Both matter. Both are us.
This isn't just our business - it's our mission. The same love and expertise we give to Marshmallow, Macaron, and Chocolatte extends to every rabbit we touch through our volunteer efforts, our educational work, and our support of the rescue community.
Thank you for being part of our community. Together, we're making a difference - one bunny at a time.
Second Hop: Our Rescue Sponsorship Program
Second Hop is Bun Chia Burrow's core rescue initiative. Through monthly sponsorships ($15-$100), supporters help fund medical care and foster support for rabbits pulled from Long Beach Animal Care Services and LA Animal Services - rabbits facing euthanasia without intervention.
Launched May 13, 2026 in honor of Marshmallow's seventh gotcha day, Second Hop represents our commitment to turning rescue into sustainable, community-supported action.
How Second Hop Works
When a rabbit arrives at a shelter facing euthanasia due to medical needs or behavioral concerns, we assess, pull, and provide immediate veterinary care. That rabbit then enters foster care while we work toward adoption readiness.
Sponsors support that journey. Monthly contributions fund:
Emergency veterinary care (broken bones, GI stasis intervention, etc.)
Follow-up appointments and medication
Foster care and rehabilitation
Behavioral support and socialization
Adoption readiness assessments
100% of sponsorship proceeds go directly to medical care and foster support through our fiscal sponsor, CAAT (Cat Adoption and Assistance Team), a 501c3 nonprofit organization (EIN: 84-2615582).
Second Hop Sponsorship Tiers
Sploot Buddy ($15/month) Monthly photo updates + website recognition
Hoppy Helper ($35/month) Bi-weekly updates + behind-the-scenes video clips + email updates
Flop Squad ($65/month) Monthly artist-created postcards/stickers + bi-weekly updates + priority responses
Binky Champion ($100/month) Everything above + service discounts on BCB boarding/grooming + adoption priority notification
When a rabbit is adopted, sponsorship automatically transfers to the next rescue rabbit (or you can pause anytime - no contracts).
Current + Past Second Hop Rabbits
DJ Quick: 2yo Rex rescued with broken ankle. Sponsored through recovery. ADOPTED.
Viking: 1yo Lop rescued with severe GI stasis, bladder sludge, and hind leg atrophy. Currently in foster care with active sponsors supporting his recovery.
Blood Donor Bunny: Emergency Blood Donor Network
When rabbits need emergency blood transfusions, there's no blood bank. Blood Donor Bunny is a coordinated network of pre-vetted, healthy donor rabbits whose guardians have committed to emergency transport for life-saving transfusions.
Over three years, we've successfully coordinated 11 emergency blood donor transports, connecting rabbits in crisis with compatible donors within 1-2 hours.
How Blood Donor Bunny Works
Rabbit guardians enroll their healthy rabbits as donors through a simple application process. When a partner veterinary clinic needs a donor, we coordinate rapid transport and donor assessment.
The process:
Guardian enrollment and medical screening
Clinic approval based on donor eligibility
Emergency contact and rapid coordination
Transport, donation, and post-donation monitoring
Donor rests 6 months before eligibility for next donation
Donor guardians receive service credits toward BCB's boarding, grooming, and consultation services as a thank-you.
Blood Donor Bunny is operated in partnership with rabbit-savvy veterinary clinics throughout Southern California. We handle all logistics and coordination at no charge to partner clinics or donor guardians.
Affordable Healthcare Access
Life-saving healthcare shouldn't be a luxury. We partner with trusted exotic veterinarians to host affordable RHDV-2 vaccine clinics and provide access to critical preventive care for rabbits throughout Long Beach, Los Angeles, and Orange County.
Low-Cost RHDV-2 Vaccine Clinics
RHDV-2 (Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus 2) is a highly contagious and often fatal virus affecting rabbits. We host regular low-cost vaccine clinics featuring:
Medgene RHDV-2 vaccine series (two doses, spaced three weeks apart)
Comprehensive wellness exams by exotic veterinarians
Affordable pricing to make protection accessible
Educational resources on RHDV-2 prevention and rabbit health
Time to discuss your rabbit's specific health needs with experienced vets
RHDV-2 has been detected in 26 California counties and is considered endemic in Southern California. Our clinics ensure cost is never a barrier to protection.
