Meet the Humans behind the Bun Chia Burrow
We're M (Michael) and SD (Sharina Dyan), the humans behind Bun Chia Burrow. We created The Burrow as a comprehensive resource for rabbit, guinea pig, chinchilla, hamster, and rat parents—both locally in Long Beach and worldwide.
Our Story
What started with rescuing Marshmallow off a friend's lawn in 2019 has grown into a resource for rabbit parents in Long Beach and beyond. We created The Burrow to share everything we've learned about rabbit bonding, behavior, and care—and we're now expanding to include guinea pigs, chinchillas, hamsters, and rats.
We have three rescue rabbits—Marshmallow, Macaron, and Chocolatte—all personally bonded by us using behavioral science and proven techniques. Our journey into professional small pet care started with a passion for rabbit welfare and grew into a full-service pet care business serving the Los Angeles and Orange County communities.
Our Background
SD (Sharina Dyan)
SD graduated from UC-Irvine with a biology degree, but went on to specialize in child behavior and development. Her behavioralist expertise and 10+ years managing and conducting clinical research in a lab setting allowed us to create a bonding program supported by scientific peer-reviewed articles. She is also an official Pet Partners Handler, with Macaron as a fully vetted therapy rabbit.
M (Michael)
M graduated from UC-Irvine with a business administration degree. Although his background is not in STEM, his eagerness to learn has made him a valuable asset when bonding. He helps draft protocols and improves all data collection systems.
Together, we've poured countless hours into learning proper rabbit care and small pet husbandry. Our approach combines scientific research with hands-on experience to give your pets the best possible care.
Community Involvement & Partnerships
We're proud partners and volunteers in the Long Beach and Los Angeles rabbit rescue community:
Partners:
Rabbit Savior Society - An up-and-coming resource for rabbit parents everywhere
Volunteer Organizations:
We are currently fostering 3 bunnies for Long Beach Animal Care Services and always advocate for rabbit welfare in our community.
Please note: If a rabbit rescue is not listed above, we are not formally affiliated. We do not intake and facilitate rabbit adoptions directly—however, please visit our adoptable rabbits page if you're interested in making new rabbit friends!
Our Values & 2025 Commitment
As an Asian, LGBTQ+, immigrant, and woman-owned business based in Long Beach, we believe in leading with our values, even at the risk of losing your business.
Although we have always been quite open with our political views, we have never explicitly expressed our stance in writing and are choosing to lead with action.
We will withdraw from using all Meta platforms (including Instagram), as well as remove patronage from any other companies that have shown support for this farce of an oligarch administration, rolled back their diversity, equity and inclusion policies (including Amazon, Whole Foods, Target) and/or shown anti-union sentiments (including Trader Joe's).
Lin Manuel Miranda said it best - if we stand for nothing, what will we fall for?
We understand this stance may not align with everyone, but we believe in transparency and integrity in all aspects of our business.
